I've got a woman who's wild as Rome
She likes to lay naked and be gazed upon
...
Wine bottles scattered like last night's clothes
Cigarettes, papers, and dominoes
Well, she laughs for a miniute 'bout the shape I'm in
Says, "You be the sinner, honey, I'll be the sin"
...
She brings me roses and a place to lean
A drunken poet's dream
(Hayes Carll & Ray Wylie Hubard)
Singer-songwriter Hayes Carll, and his band, played to a sold-out crowd at Minglewood Hall's 1884 Lounge in Memphis on November 9, 2025. He brought merch, too. (I got the Bitcoin & Cattle shirt).

Hayes opened the set with "Drunken Poet's Dream" from his 2008 release Trouble in Mind. Co-written by Ray Wylie Hubbard, "Drunken Poet's Dream" was my first exposure to Hayes Carll and remains my favorite. Another personal favorite, 2021's "You Get It All," also appeared early in the set.

In low light environments, the camera's shutter must stay open longer to gather enough light to capture an image. If the subject moves while the shutter is open, the resulting image can be blurred or exhibit trails. Sometimes, when the right parts stay still while the right part moves, you get a low-light image like this:

As a bonus for staying to the end, here's a shot of opening act Jobi Riccio:

Thanks for stopping by,
