Samantha Fish's Shake 'Em on Down tour, featuring singer-songwriter Jesse Drayton, rolled into Memphis on November 28, 2023. They co-headlined a triple bill in Minglewood Hall's 1884 Lounge behind opening acts Jon Spencer and Eric Johanson.

The Lounge, a small separate space off from the main hall, allows a more up-close, personal experience. Because of this, however, there is no pit or space in front of the stage. I had to jockey with members of the audience throughout the evening for an open position on the side. Also, the lighting in this room can be challenging.

After the demise of the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Spencer joined forces, in his then-current project, with bassist Kendall Wind and drummer Macky "Spider" Bowman.

Eric toured in support of his album "The Deep and the Dirty," released on Ruf Records and produced by the night's co-headliner Jesse Drayton. All three of my primary lenses saw action during this set.

Samantha and Jesse kicked off the late year U.S. tour in Memphis to promote their first collaborative effort, "Death Wish Blues," after completing an 11 city United Kingdom run in October.

Thanks for stopping by.
